Yep, Anders came home for the winter a couple weeks ago, just in time for him to put the Christmas lights outside for us and help decorate around the house. But the life of a sailor at home is never guaranteed and yep one afternoon we got a phone call "could you come help us out?" Anders asked me what I thought and promised me that they promised he would get home for Christmas. So off he went to Thunder Bay, Ontario to join up with the ship for a couple weeks. If he isn't home for Christmas you will for sure see another post here....#W%Q$
So here I am back to manning the fort at home. First thing was to get the tractor moved that stalled out a the bottom of our 350 foot driveway that has a VERY steep grade to it. I guess it didn't like the really cold weather we had. Anders put some 911 in it before he left for work but it hadn't started so after a couple days when the weather warmed up I was finally able to get it started. I'm just glad it was pointed almost uphill since I really don't like it when it "lists" ...LOL Happy its running since it comes in handy moving wood from the woodpile to the house which I'll be needing to do really soon now that the cold weather is coming back.
Its funny how my life has changed since I met Anders, I've always been obsessed with the weather I'm apt to leave the weather channel on our TV 24/7 I just find it so interesting. But now of course I have to read the Great Lakes Weather too and see what he is up against. Those storms getting pretty nasty out there, worse than most people here in the East would ever know about. Glad he is a weather router though and doesn't do stupid things and put the ship and the crew out in nasty weather. Makes it easier to not worry about him thats for sure. Another thing that I do since meeting him is I NEVER put cans or boxes etc upside down in the cupboards. Now before I couldn't of cared less but he told me that thats one thing you never do. Something about not wanting his ship upside down. Sailors are pretty superstitions or at least this one is. So yep, right side up cans in the cupboards.

ETA already!
Yep so Anders is "retired" so I knew when he went back to work that he wouldn't be "out" as long as in the past but this morning I got my ETA for his arrival home already. Course I know that even though he gave me a date AND an actual time for his arrival at the doorstep he is 9 days from there and I know very well ALOT can happen in 9 days on a ship! So I wrote it down and shall have some fun with how many times I have to change it. :)

Here we go again
So this winter my husband retired. For most that would mean that their husbands are home ALL the time and getting used to being around each other 24/7 sometimes can be a challenge. Well for me and others like me its a bit different? My husband is home 24/7 in the winter so we do get a chance to be with each other for long periods of time. We have so much fun together , we are big into games and start each morning with a few backgammon games and even keep track to give someone the Championship title on New Years Eve. Well after after a great winter together, spring brings a change yet again. Yes my husband is retired but what do they say? You can't keep the sea out of a sailor? He is back out there again but with a new company, a new ship and a new schedule , no longer 1/2 the year but a mere 3 months. Sounds good but I'm still getting used to being home alone again. Its hard to say goodbye and hard to be apart I know he'll be home the middle of next month ( ?) But for now I'm glad I have a bunch of projects and wonderful kids and grandkids around!

Todays the day!
Yep, its time to bring the Sailor Guy home today. Now its funny how sometimes I am so en sync with Anders that I wake when he wakes even though he isn't here. ( It has happened MANY times before) He told me he was going to be getting called at 3:30 so what happens? I wake up at 3:30 and haven't been able to sleep since, which is probably good since at least when he gets home we'll both be exhausted together..:)
I missed having him over the Holiday weekend, something not right about celebrating such a joyous occasion without having your husband home to enjoy it with you. The kids, the Grand kids and yes in the spirit of peace on earth and good will towards man , even my Ex Husband and his wife :) Yes I think we are better friends now and I think our maturity of celebrating Holidays etc together will only be that much better for Izzy and Finn and whomever comes along later on..:)
Meanwhile back to the upcoming events - so I thought okay I'll just get up at 4:30 and start picking up the house...well what have I done? hmmm not much , I'm too tired to move...LOL But too excited to sleep!

Latest News!
Yep, I may not be getting a Sailor home for Christmas but I'll get one for "Boxing Day" , word on the street is that the ship is laying up on Christmas Day so he'll be home first thing in the morning in time to return all the gifts in boxes....? Or in time for us to give our servants gifts in boxes? Or whatever that Boxing Day tradition is..:O) Either way he'll be home and we are looking forward to celebrating our Holiday on Tuesday. Meanwhile I'm busy sewing and baking today in preparation for the busy weekend and hope he realizes I won't have time to clean the house this time! :)
Merry Christmas to all ! And Happy Hanukkah as well! Oh and look its snowing...... :)

The ETA
Well against my better judgement I am writing the ETA for home Anders gave me on the calendar. "Boxing Day" he will be arriving home....if thats true then he'll be home in 9 days. Now, I do know delays can happen and he knows that too, but for now I'm putting my faith in him that he will really be home then. Course if there are delays it won't be his fault, things break down, on the ship or on shore and then of course there is the weather....But I can sense a bit of excitement in his voice that its almost time to come home. :)

Preparing for Christmas
There is something about celebrating a Holiday that just isn't right when your Husband isn't home. Anders has been home for Christmas twice since I've known him. Of course for me Christmas Starts the day after Thanksgiving when we put up the fake Christmas Tree and all the Christmas lights, we put up a real tree later on closer to Christmas. He has made it for those events a couple times too, but never in the same year. I have those mixed emotions of excitement for the Holiday but wish he'd be home to really enjoy it. I always tell him he has NO idea what he is missing. Of course there are SO many things he has no idea what he is missing by living more than 1/2 his life on a ship. Right now though I know he wants to be home so I try to not sound TOO excited about things I'm doing so not to make him feel badly for missing it. This year it will be that much better too with Grandbabies in the picture, but of course that won't change now so he'll get to enjoy that part next year and so on and so on since we hope this is the last season he works in December. Meanwhile, he tells me dates when he expects to be home but Christmas is NOT in the picture for this year and with the weather being unpredictable out there this time of year I am not writing anything on the calendar yet.
