Stories I've written about my trips on the Great Lakes with my husband, and my day to day thoughts of my life being married to a Sailor.

The long long wait
So, this morning I finally heard from Anders around 10AM. At that time he still hadn't heard anything from anyone about when he was being relieved. After listening to me express my concern with "how do we know if your relief got off the other ship?" I think he realized I needed a more definite answer so he called me back an hour later with news that the limo service was indeed picking up his relief at the Montreal Airport at 1:30 this afternoon. Okay so the first steps of the "Dance" had taken place. This was really going to happen! Okay, so I was getting ready to go drive a little over an hour to deliver my sons cats to him after the cats had spend a couple weeks here while they were traveling to Germany. I was thinking heck, if I'm part way over there maybe I could just drive a little further and pick him up. I really do love picking him up, its kind of exciting to watch him walk off the ship, almost like a little VICTORY on my part? ( me vs ship ? ) But after talking to him for a little while it was more than clear he wasn't really sure WHEN his relief was going to arrive on the ship. Of course he'd have to arrive while the ship was in one of the locks in the seaway and seeing as though it takes a bit longer than it takes to lower the ship in the lock to hand over the ship, they would proceed to the next lock for Anders to get off. That wouldn't be good for me driving since I would have to drive at least 4 hours just to get to one of the locks and then have it end up being the wrong one. So we decided I would just go home after the cat delivery and wait. At this point in time when I write this its 8pm and I still don't know anything I do know he is still on the ship though. I told him just call me when you get off then I'll know if I'm staying up until 11PM or 1AM! Regardless, he IS coming home and YES, I AM happy..:)
