The story of how I met my Husband can be found here.
Right now its raining here in Vermont, its windy, and my Husband is on the Algoma Discovery in the Welland Canal heading southbound. There are Gales blowing on Lake Erie, A Storm Warning on Lake Huron. Here in Vermont if I say that to someone they have no idea what I mean. We have a Lake , Lake Champlain but it doesn't get the weather the Great Lakes get, most people here don't realize that it is the Great Lakes that makes our weather. Right now there is warm air over the lakes, the lakes are warm, but the cool air is coming in and the cool air and the warm water makes for a not nice scenario. There is a good site that explains the "gale" and "storm". Now yes the ships are big and its been a long time since a ship has been lost on the Great Lakes but none of us who have family who are out on the Lakes, like hearing the weather reports. I am VERY lucky that my Husband is the Captain. Lucky because he is a VERY GOOD CAPTAIN, I've been there with him and witnessed it. I'm lucky because I know how he watches the weather how he plans his routes around it when possible or tosses "the hook" out when there is no other alternative. But here I sit , with the rain coming down and the wind blowing, knowing that there are waves crashing out on the Lakes, knowing the skies are grey and the winds are blowing, and my Husband is in a big cold steel Ship. Its a lonely feeling...
He has been gone since the end of August and isn't due to return until the first week of November. Between now and then I will keep myself busy and look forward to when I get an ETA for home.
